Nigerian duo inspire Trabzonspor to 2-1 win over Galatasaray

Trabzonspor beat Galatasaray 2-1 to reduce the gap at the top of the Turkish Super League to just one point, with Paul Onuachu and Chibuike Nwaiwu proving decisive.

The locals made a perfect start and took the lead in the third minute. Paul Onuachu finished with confidence after a precise center from Wagner Pina.

Galatasaray responded after the break and found the equalizer in the 48th minute.

Wilfried Singo received a good cross from Barış Alper Yılmaz and fired a powerful right-footed shot into the back of the net.

However, Trabzonspor regained control 14 minutes later.

Chibuike Nwaiwu regained the lead with a decisive header after a corner taken by Anthony Nwakaeme, a goal that finally sealed the victory.

Galatasaray clearly felt the absence of Victor Osimhen, who missed the match due to injury.

Despite dominating possession with 64%, completing 387 passes to Trabzonspor’s 202 and registering 19 shots, they failed to convert their opportunities effectively.

Turkish international Nihat Kahveci criticized Galatasaray’s performance after the match, saying:

“Osimhen is a very important player, but you can’t play that bad without him, brother. You should have a plan even when Osimhen is not around.”

On an individual level, Paul Onuachu continues his excellent season with 22 goals in the Super Lig.

The striker remains comfortably ahead of Istanbul Başakşehir’s Eldor Shomurodov, who has scored 16 goals.
