Nigeria’s Women’s Women’s Handball team was victorious in the tournament of zone 3 of the IHF female trophy in the youth category, defeating the hosts Côte d’IVorire 37-30 in an intense ending on Thursday in Abidjan.

Trained by John Uzor, the Nigerian side showed an exceptional form throughout the competition and limited his campaign with a dominant performance marked by tactical discipline, high energy and attack style.
The final was up to his turnover, with two undefeated teams. Nigeria had an immediate impact, launching an early advantage with rapid offensive plays and an aggressive defense. Despite the energetic support of the local crowd, Costa D’IVorire struggled to break the resistant background of Nigeria, directed by Captain Omole Joy.
Nigeria continued to press with effective transitions, with amine Balikisu establishing the tone in the attack. Although the sea defended themselves, the Nigerian girls maintained their composure and achieved experts in the last minutes to ensure a dominant victory of seven goals.
The coach Uzor praised his players for his teamwork and dedication, stating: “This victory is a testimony of the hard work of the girls. They played as a single unit, supported themselves and really embodied the spirit of the champions.”
He also appreciated the support of the Hanhano Federation of Nigeria, directed by Samuel Ocheho, for his efforts in the preparation of the team.
With this triumph, the U-18 team not only claimed the title of Zone 3, but also reserved a place in the continental phase of the IHF female trophy, with the host place that will be announced.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Sub-20 women’s team claimed the bronze medal in the Junior category, bouncing with a 31-19 victory over Benin Republic after a narrow defeat in 28-25 semifinal against Burkina Faso.
The team, trained by Shittu Adewunmi Agboola, showed the class in the third place match, finishing his campaign with a high note.
Burkina Faso, who surpassed Côte D’IVorire 31-30 in the final, will represent zone 3 in the junior category of the continental phase of the IHF female trophy.
