NILDS Director General Under Scrutiny as Former Chief of Staff Requests Academic Records from University of Abuja

The Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Abubakar O. Sulaiman, is under scrutiny after a formal request was made under the Freedom of Information Act seeking access to his academic and professional records at the University of Abuja.

The request, filed by Professor Jake D. Dan-Azumi, calls into question the legitimacy of Sulaiman’s promotion to professor, raising concerns about his academic qualifications and publication history.

Professor Dan-Azumi’s request seeks clarification on the processes that led to Sulaiman’s promotion, citing a lack of significant academic contributions, absence from reliable academic databases, and questionable linguistic competence.

A Google Scholar search for “Sulaiman Olarewaju Sulaiman” yielded no results, casting further doubt on his academic reputation.

The request also challenges the validity of the publications listed by Sulaiman, noting that many of them are published in predatory journals and questioning his alleged output of 3-5 articles per year between 2003 and 2015, a figure that Dan-Azumi considers implausibly high.

Additional concerns include Sulaiman’s official recognition as a professor, inconsistencies in the timing of his promotion, and his alleged involvement in admissions fraud.

In his request, Professor Dan-Azumi also asked the university to provide the evaluation criteria for professorships starting in 2016, to assess whether Sulaiman met the necessary standards at that time.

The request highlights the need for a comprehensive review of Sulaiman’s academic and professional background, stressing the importance of transparency and accountability.

Professor Dan-Azumi warns that failure by the University of Abuja to provide the requested information will result in further action under the Freedom of Information Act.

The University is urged to respond promptly and comprehensively to these serious concerns.
