The chapter of the Lagos State of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has requested a new minimum wage of N150,000 for state workers, citing the increase in the costs of life and recent wage increases in the IMO and Ebonyi States.
The President of the State NLC, Funmi Sesi asked the question on Thursday in response to the revision of the salary upwards by the two states.
Sesi said that Lagos workers currently earn N85,000 as a minimum wages and deserve a revision on the rise in line with the highest cost of the state of accommodation, transport, power supply and public services.
“The time has come for an upward revision of the minimum salary in Lagos. At least someone took the bull for the horns and opened the space,” he said.
. It added that nobody could blame the Governor Sanwo-Oell now if he implements a higher salary for Lagos’s workers, underlining that decent wages and decent working conditions commensurate with economic realities, especially in Lagos.
Likewise, the Ebonyi government has increased the minimum wage of its workers from N70,000 to N90.000.
The head of the state NLC expressed optimism that all state governments would emulate imo and ebonyi.
Recall that the governor hopes that Uzodimma of the state of imo had previously announced an increase in the minimum wage for public employees from N76,000 to N104,000.
