The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) is at the center of a 21 million dollar scandal that has made snowballs in a political and corporate crisis, implementing the CEO of the group (GCare), Bayo Bashir Ojulari, on the verge of an exit not kept just four months after his appointment.
Ojulari: I voluntarily resigned without gun
The controversy broke out last week when a coalition of groups of activists organized a protest at the Feccc headquarters in Abuja, asking for the arrest of Ojulari on a corruption scandal of N34.65 billion ($ 21 million).
The protesters accused him of using delegates for siphon funds intended for national development and said that the scandal had “immersed Nigeria in a crisis of trust”.
At the center of the storm is Abdullahi Bashir Haske, a young oil and son -in -law entrepreneur to the leader of the opposition Atiku Abubakar. Haske, a long -standing partner of Ojilari, would have told investigators that the $ 21 million found in his company account belonged to the boss nnpcl.
The insiders, however, describe the funds as a routine of “contingence of the interested parties”, a monthly disbursement historically used to gain weight the complex network of the Nigeria of business relations and fundamental policies for NNPCL operations. The fund, sometimes called the “ease of doing business” bag, has always been safely managed by Senior Managers Nnpcl until Ojulari insisted on taking direct control through Haske, his trusted trustee.
The problem, sources say, began when the funds were parked in the Haske account without immediate redistribution, triggering alarms within NNPCL and other interested parties. The perspective of the welcoming affair of Ojulari with Haske, who is married to Atiku’s daughter, did not help things. The professionals argue that President Tinubu is “uncertain” by intelligence relationships that suggest that the resources nnpcl may have been channeled, in a witty or unaware way, towards opposition networks.
“Everyone here feel betrayed. The open fraternization of Ojulari with Haske, including flying in the same private jets of Atiku, has become politically indefensible,” revealed a senior government source.
“Its exit is a question of when, not if.”
Although the voices on Ojulari’s resignation have made the rounds during the weekend, the sources risk that, although not the formal resignation have been offered, discussions are underway for a “soft landing” to avoid embarrassing the Tinubu administration.
Among the frenzy of the media, the Arewa Economic Forum (AEF) entered the fray, soliciting
The Federal Government provides a definitive declaration on the state of Ojulari. The northern economic think tank warned that a nnpcl leadership void could destabilize economic planning and damage investors’ trust. The AEF also condemned that the security agencies had forced Ojilari to sign a letter of resignation, a statement that both EFCC and DSS have denied vehemently.
The high -level sources of both agencies insist on Ojulari have not been arrested, questioned,
or forced to resign, rejecting the accusations as “false and unfounded”. However, the
The pressure on Ojilari has increased, with perceptions of unfair and weighing of political naivety
heavily against him.
The Association of Ojilari with Haske dates back to his days in the private sector, where he
According to reports, consulted for Haske before climbing the rudder nnpcl. His critics are now accusing
He to restore the privileges to Haske who had been revoked by the former Boss of the NNPCL Mele Kyari due to the concerns on Haske’s political affiliations.
The 21 million dollar fund, considered minor for the standards of the oil industry, has inadvertently become a symbol of deep distrust and bargaining rivalries within NNPCL of topicality. What started as Routine’s company logistics has now transformed into a scandal of national proportions, with
Ojulari, with his own device, captured in the crossing of politics, optics and raw power game.
For now, the presidency remains at low lips, but few believe that Ojulari can survive this crisis.
