Northern Students Honor SSA: NANNS Presents Youth Icon Award to Adeboye, Seeks Strategic Partnership

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, Hon. Adeyinka Anthony Adeboye, has been honored with an Award of Excellence as a Youth and Sports Development Icon by the National Association of Northern Nigeria Students (NANNS) during a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja.

The delegation, led by its President, Ibrahim Adamu, together with key members such as Khadija Wealth Abubakar, described the SSA as a symbol of visionary leadership whose impact on grassroots sports and youth empowerment continues to inspire young Nigerians across the country.

Presenting the award, Ibrahim Adamu noted that the recognition was a recognition of Adeboye’s unwavering commitment to youth development and nation building.

“This award is a reflection of his dedication to empowering youth and creating opportunities through sport. His leadership continues to inspire a new generation of Nigerians.”

Furthermore, he emphasized the association’s willingness to collaborate with the SSA office to deepen youth engagement and development initiatives.

“We are not here just to celebrate, but also to pursue a partnership with your office. We believe that by working together, we can expand opportunities for young people, especially in areas of leadership, sports and national development.”

The National Association of Northern Nigeria Students (NANNS) is a student conglomerate established to bridge the gap between the current and future generations, with the aim of ensuring the future prosperity of the society. Its focus encompasses career guidance, peace and harmony, unity in diversity, generational discipline, good governance, leadership training and administrative competence.

The association also promotes students’ rights and good governance, with executive members and coordinators in various parts of Nigeria. Its corporate secretariat is located at Bayero University Kano, Kano State.

In his response, the Hon. Adeboye expressed his sincere gratitude for the honour, describing it as humbling and encouraging.

“I am truly honored by this recognition from NANNS. It is always encouraging to see young people appreciate and believe in the work we are doing.”

He, however, maintained a tone of humility and dedicated the award to the collective efforts of his team and stakeholders.

“This award is not just for me, it belongs to all who share the vision of empowering young Nigerians. I remain committed to serving with humility and purpose.”

Adeboye also welcomed the proposed collaboration and reaffirmed the openness of his office to partnerships that align with youth development and grassroots engagement.

“My office remains open to meaningful collaborations. Together, we can do more to build capacity, create opportunities and shape a better future for our young people.”

Observers noted that the honor adds to the growing list of recognitions received by the SSA, further cementing its position as a leading figure in grassroots sports development and youth empowerment in Nigeria.

The visit ended on a high note, with both sides expressing optimism about future collaboration aimed at boosting national development through youth-focused initiatives.

It also encouraged members to document and share evidence of their tree planting activities as part of efforts to promote responsibility and inspire broader public participation in environmental management. “The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago; the second best time is now,” Badmos said, urging immediate action rather than continued delays in addressing environmental challenges. He expressed optimism that sustained efforts to plant trees would help make Abeokuta greener, Ogun State healthier and Nigeria more resilient to environmental risks. Badmos reaffirmed NES’s commitment to ongoing support, awareness creation and practical interventions aimed at promoting a cleaner and more sustainable environment.
