NSC DG guides the Caa delegation during the courtesy visit to Obasanjo in view of the U18/U20 athletic championship
The general manager of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, on Monday he conducted a high -level delegation of the Confederation of African athletics (CAA) to make a courtesy visit to the former president OlusaGun Obasanjo at the Obasanjo Obasanjo presidential library in Abekuta.
The visit comes while Nigeria is preparing to host the 3rd African Atletics African African Athletics championship in Abekuta from 16 to 20 July, with leader in African and global Atletics that converge to discuss the growth and the future of sport on the continent.
The head Obasanjo thanked Caa for having in particular assigned the championship’s hosting rights in Nigeria and in the state of Ogun.
“We have structures and we have history,” said Obasanjo. “Any African friend is welcome to our state. Cooperate, collaborate and collaborate with Caa. We will be the best guest we can be.”
President Malboum used the opportunity to ask for deeper structural reforms in African athletics, complaining of cases in which Caa had to solicit aid from World Athletics (WA) due to administrative deficiencies. He underlined that these situations decrease the dignity of the continent and asked for sustainable African -leading solutions to African sports challenges.
Highlighting the launch of a new initiative, “Africa Sports and Culture Development Foundation”, Malboum revealed that the Obasanjo head was chosen as one of the Foundation’s pillars and asked for his consent to serve as President of his Board of Directors. The initiative aims to raise African athletes and preserve the sporting and cultural identity of the continent.
Head Obasanjo warmly accepted honor and expressed his firm conviction in the power of sport and culture as tools for the transformation of positive society.
“I am open to any policy that will help sport and cultural development: Endeavours with a high level of positivity and productivity,” he said.
President Malboum presented the former president a formal cooperation letter, together with a book written by a Cameroonian professor as a special gift for the presidential library.
The high -power delegation included the president of Caa Hamad Kalkaba Malboum, the president of Atletica Asiala Dahlan at Hamad and the president of the Nigeria Federation (AFN) of Athletics, TonoBok Okow, has sought the support of the former leader in the progress of athletic development through Africa.
