NSCDC arrests 15 suspected illegal miners in Plateau

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested 15 suspected illegal miners in Plateau State.

NSCDC spokesperson in the state, Ruth Rimvyok, disclosed this to journalists on Wednesday in Jos.

He said the suspects were arrested in Bukuru, Jos South local government area.

Rimvyok said: “NSCDC has a mandate to protect critical national assets and as part of Executive Order 001 issued by the Plateau Government, we have noticed an increase in illegal mining being carried out around critical national assets.

“What is even more sad is the fact that minors are being used to carry out illegal mining activities in the state.

“We have arrested 15 suspects, 13 of whom are minors.

“We would like to warn those who use minors for these illegal acts to immediately stop such acts or face the full consequences of the law.”

The NSCDC spokesman appealed to parents to prevent their children from engaging in such illegal activities, saying anyone caught would not go unpunished.
