The Special Intelligence Team of the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested three suspects for pipeline vandalism, oil theft and illegal trading of petroleum products at Umuodo, Umuajuloke community in Omuma Local Government Area of ββRivers State.
Speaking at a briefing on Monday, CG SIS commander DC Apollo Dandaura said ongoing intelligence activities have led to the discovery of an illegal oil refinery at the crime scene.
The operation led to the seizure of a large quantity of illegally refined petroleum products, suspected to be automotive diesel fuel (AGO).
βBased on credible information, we swung into action and arrested three suspects at the crime scene with large quantities of illegally refined AGO, stored in metal drums and cellophane bags,β Dandaura said.
The arrested suspects were Happiness Nwankwo, 45, Nnoma Nwankwo, 30, and Favour Amadi, all from Omuma, Rivers State.
Recovered artifacts include numerous drum furnaces containing stolen and siphoned crude oil, industrial pipes used to tap into well heads, large quantities of stolen crude oil stored in cellophane bags and barrels, metal and plastic buckets, wheelbarrows, shovels, and galvanized metal pipes.
Investigations have begun to determine the involvement of the suspects and identify their sponsors. “At the conclusion of a thorough investigation, those found guilty will be prosecuted,” Dandaura assured.
