The socio-cultural organization of the Apex of the OBUN-YORUBA people of the State of Kogi, Okun Development Association (Oda), has taken a courageous step to deal with the security challenges that face Okunland convening a safety summit.
The top of “unlocking the full potential of Okunland through strategic partnerships”, the topic was held on Friday 28 March 2025 in Kabba, the local government of Kabba-Bunu Aeas of the State of Kogi, has decided to implement a global security plan.
The important summit has brought together high -level government officials, traditional sovereigns, security experts and interested parties from various sectors to make brainstorming of solutions to the growing challenges of insecurity that afflict the region.
He was moderated by a retired director, a state security service and a famous security expert, Dr. Williams Toyin Akanle.
In his welcome speech, the General President of the Oda, the ambassador Akenson Rotimi, underlined the need for a strategic and joint approach to face the threat of insecurity.
In his observations, the governor Ahmed Ododo, represented by the state councilor for state security, the CDR Jerry Dur Omodara (RTD), expressed the full support of the Kogi government for the initiative.
The governor observed that the police of the basic community is recognized by his administration as a sustainable way of facing the challenges of insecurity, underlining that the government was working assiduously in this sense.
A guest speaker, CC Adventunji Adeleye, commander of the wave state of the South-West Security Network (Amotekun) and coordinator of the body in the south-western state, underlined the need for legislation for effective synergy in the community police among the neighboring states.
βSpeaking on behalf of the traditional sovereigns of Okun, Ijumu’s Olujumu and the president, the traditional advice of Ijumu, HRM Oba Williams Ayeni, complained of the persistent attacks of some non -indigenous criminal elements.
This, the royal father said that they are evidently guided by an agenda to grab the land of the Okun people and possibly submit the people and that this must be resisted jointly.
A press release containing the resolutions at the top, signed by the head Jibril Yusuf – President; Araba Rufus Aiyenigba – Secretary; as well as the Hon. Soji Olu; Pastor Dayo Thomas, as members, was released to journalists on Sunday in Lokoja.
In the press release, the summit has decided to establish a well -financed basic community police structure, recognizing that security is everyone’s activities.
This structure will be supported by technology -based safety operations, with well -equipped Okun compatriots encouraged to provide support. The correct profiling of settlers in Okun communities will also be carried out to prevent infiltration from criminal elements.
Other key resolutions included: community involvement, economic empowerment, trustee for safety, safety audit, support for supervisory groups, victims of security violations, as well as support for traditional sovereigns to effectively carry out their roles.
The summit underlined the importance of sharing credible information with security agents and the need for discretion in the use of social media on safety issues.
The summit supported the creation of jobs, the economic empowerment and social interventions as essential tools to reduce criminal activities and the vulnerability of young people.
He also underlined the need to establish a community security fund based on the community in Okunland to support safety initiatives, as well as regular safety audits to be conducted in all Okun communities to identify gaps and fill.
The summit was resolved further to guarantee adequate incentives, motivation and moral increase for the groups and hunters of Okun Vigilante and a sustainable support system to be implemented for the victims of security violations in Okunland.
In conclusion, the summit has decided to ensure that adequate support for the traditional sovereigns of Okun from the government and to people well intentioned in guaranteeing their domain are provided, while traditional security measures are also encouraged by communities.

Victor Omofaiye; Otunba Shuaib Ipinmisho, Senior Senior Assistant of the Governor on Earth; Former Commissioner Kogi for women’s affairs, Hon. Bolanle Bola-Olorunsaiye.
Others were: Richard Osaseyi, general manager, Kogi Signage Advertisement Agency; The Obaro di Kabba and the president, Okun Traditional Council, HRM, Oba Solomon Dele Owoniyi, represented by HRH, Olu LF Ayinmiro, OBA of Iluke; Agbana of Isanlu, HRM, Oba Moses B. Etombi;
There were also: HRM, Mopa’s Elulu, Oba Muyiwa Ibeun; HRM, OBA Ayodle Irukera, Egbe elegs, represented by the bale of Egbe, Hrh, Oba inhabitun Agbana; HRM, Olu Anthony Bamigbaiye Idowu, with, OLU-ADDE of Ekinrin-Adde, other interested parties and key actors in Okunland’s security architecture and beyond.
