The Ogun state government has began demolishing a plaza belonging to former governor and senator representing Ogun East, Sen. Gbenga Daniel at the Ijebu Ode area of the state.
The N1billion worth plaza according to the Project Manager & Developer, Engr. Olusegun Lawal, is supposed to house the senatorial office of Senator Daniel, amongst others.
According to Lawal, the five-storey Plaza has full approval with construction dating back to 2009 and scheduled for commissioning at the end of September, 2023.
He further said that ground floor and mezzanine is a banking hall fully fitted with bank trap doors, and chubb strong room, while the kone elevator was installed by Kresta Laurel Ltd.
The plaza also has about 80 brand new split air conditioners just completely installed, a 150kVA generator set and transformer in place with fire fighting equipments.
According to a state government official who preferred annoymity, some irregularities was cited as reason for the demolition, after a three-day notice was served.
Other reason given includes, inadequate muster point within the plaza, lack of enough parking space, amongst others.
Meanwhile, investigation revealed that the new twist may not be unconnected with the power play between the two party chieftains in the state.
The feud started before the last general elections.
Both Abiodun and Daniel hail from the Ogun East Senatorial District, where the governor faced a substantial setback, losing seven out of nine local government areas in the senatorial district, with the accusation that Daniel had actively worked against Abiodun’s bid for a second term.
The root cause of the political clash appears to be the coveted 2027 senatorial seat.
While Daniel, the current senator of the district, expressed interest in a second term, Abiodun has been rumored to be contemplating the slot for either himself or one of his loyalists.
Many workers were said to be working on the project before the demolition which started at about 3am on Sunday.
There hasn’t been any official comment from the both ‘political warriors’ as at the time of filling this report.
