The League of Imams and Alfas in the state of Ogun expressed profound pain for the disappearance of the sovereign Awujale and paramount of ijebuland, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, cf., which describes its disappearance as a monumental loss for the Muslim community and the nation in general.
In a message of condolences signed by its general secretary, Alhaji Tajudeen Mustapha adwunmi, and made available to the time of the platform, the League said that the late monarch, which was the Amir (spiritual head) of all traditional Muslim sovereigns in Yorubaland, left behind a legacy of unity, peace and religious harmony.
“The League of Imams and Alfas, a state of Ogun, has received with deep pain and a profound sense of loss the news of the disappearance of its real majesty, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona. This is truly an irreparable loss, not only for ijebuland but for the entire state of Ogun and Nigeria”, the note.
Describing the late monarch as an exemplary leader and statesman, the League noticed that the kingdom of over six decades of OBA Adeetona was marked by the frank leadership and by a commitment for justice, religious tolerance and the development of his people.
“As a total garment of traditional Muslim sovereigns in Yorubaland (Amirul Muluk), Awujale played a unifying role between Muslim ummah in the region. His paternal councilor, the unwavering support for the interreligious harmony and the incessant promotion of Islamic values were legendary”, added the note.
The League extends the condolences to the Awujale family, to the great chief of ijebuland, to the Muslim community in the state of Ogun and the entire Ijebu people.
He also commensurate with the Governor of the State of Ogun, the prince Dapo Inhabitun, which the late monarch supported as a paternal figure and real ally to advance the progress of the state.
The declaration also recognized the president Bola Tinubu, describing the monarch as a national elderly whose voice of moderation contributed to modeling the development of Nigeria.
“We pray that Almnipotent Allah forgives his deficiencies, accept his good deeds and grant him Al-Jannah Firdus. He may strengthen the royal family, the traditional Ijebu Council, the Muslim Council of the State of Ogun and the people of Ijebuland to endure this loss.”
The League also ordered all the main imams of the state to observe a special prayer for the late monarch during Friday Juma’At service on July 17, 2025.
“While we cry this real icon, we urge all Muslims and residents of the state of Ogun to remain united in supporting the values of peace, service and harmony that the Awujale has supported so fervently.”
Oba Sikiru Adetona, who reigned for over 64 years, died at the age of 91.
