… says the insecurity now political weapon

Daud Olatunji

The exelu of the kingdom of Iselu in the state of Ogun, Oba Ebenezer Akinunde Akinyemi, urged President Bola Tinubu to consider the intake of foreign mercenaries as a drastic measure to end the prolonged wave of terrorism and afflicted on Nigeria, particularly on the plateau, in Benue and in other North States.

In an open letter strongly of words addressed to the president and commander in chief of the armed forces, the traditional first -class sovereign described the spilling of persistent blood as a national tragedy that has become a strong “industry” for some, warning that the continuous inaction could write serious consequences for the unity and stability of Nigeria.

In the letter, entitled “an open letter to his excellence, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the president and commander in chief of the armed forces, the Federal Republic of Nigeria on the inceresions in the state of the plateau and some states of the north in Nigeria”, the monarch expressed profound concern for the birth of violence, in particular in the United States and in Benue.

“It is discouraging to see that human lives are no longer appreciated in some parts of our country despite the frenetic efforts that your administration has made to guarantee all the corners and cracks of Nigeria,” wrote the monarch.

Oba Akinyemi complained that terrorism, bandits and murders had not only claimed thousands of innocent lives, but also moved entire communities from their ancestral lands, particularly in the states of the plateau and the Benue.

He condemned what he described as “criminals of marau -life” which, he said, have encouraged themselves over the years despite military investments and safety reforms.

He warned that if President Tinubu does not manage to adopt an aggressive and unconventional approach, including the commitment of the mercenaries, Nigeria could continue to undergo the economic and political repercussions of housing.

“Insecurity has now created an industry for some practitioners who want murders and mutilassino to eternity,” he wrote, listing how the national budget continues to drain, support weapons and contracts in the IDP fields.

“Unfortunately, insecurity has now become a weapon in the hands of politicians … it was used to ignore President Jonathan in 2015. The government of Buhari promised to end, but sadly failed.”

The traditional sovereign warned that the opposition could once again arm the country’s safety challenges to discredit the Tinubu administration in view of the 2027 elections.

“Do we have to allow this strategy to persist when innocent Nigerians are killed?” he asked.

The monarch also raised concerns regarding the ethnic imbalance in military recruitment and alleged complicity within safety architecture.

He accused a staff of lack of motivation and suggested that ethnic affiliations were influencing the reluctance of some northern soldiers to confront the insurgents that could be their relatives.

“Some dogs held in the houses are better fed on our soldiers,” he said. “We cannot put an end to insecurity with this approach.”

Asking a paradigm shift, Oba Akinyemi urged President Tinubu to start a debate in the national assembly on the possible deployment of foreign mercenaries to neutralize terrorists.

He insisted that this action was necessary if Nigeria really wished peace and stability.

“We cannot complain about problems and also complain about the solutions,” he said.

“If our security agencies cannot stop this calamity for three administrations, it makes no sense to put a fresh soup in the old pot.”

The monarch has extended his condolences to the families of victims of recent attacks and has reaffirmed his support for the efforts of the administration led by Tinubu, at the same time exhorting the president to take a bold position for the good of the future of Nigeria.
