The athletes who represent the state of Ogun at the national games in progress in the state of the delta shouted for what they described as a dehuman treatment after remaining without accommodation, forcing many of them to sleep in the rain.
Some athletes and officials, who spoke with the times of the platform, expressed frustration that despite the journey to represent long distances to represent the state, have been abandoned without access to basic needs such as water, electricity and an adequate refuge.
Since he arrived at Games Village on Friday, the contingent of Ogun – including athletes, coaches, medical staff and security officials – said he was stuck.
“It is with deep concern and disappointment that we bring to the public the distressing situation that we are facing here in the Delta.
“We arrived yesterday and since then there were no adequate agreements for our accommodation. Our athletes were forced to sleep outside outdoors, exposed to the rain,” he complained of one of the officials.
Another official added that the situation was worsened by the absence of water and electricity.
“These young athletes, who should be treated with dignity, had to bear the indignity of sleeping on a bare ground without water to bathe or drink and no light for their safety.
“This involves serious risks for their health, well -being and performance,” said the source.
They accused the officials responsible for logistics and well -being of repeatedly fail in their duties despite government investments in sport development.
“Is it painful asking: do we go to sleep today again? A questioner interrogated.
The athletes and their managers appealed to the state government of Ogun, to the sports administrators and the parties concerned to intervene urgently, provide immediate relief and guarantee long -term solutions to prevent future embarrassment.
“Our athletes deserve better. They are the pride of the state of Ogun and should be celebrated, not neglected. If he continues, he will discourage the participation of young people in sport and will kill morale,” said the team representatives.
Ogun’s contingent urged the government to make those who are behind the “repeated fallen” responsible and has implemented a framework of sustainable well -being for athletes representing the state to national competitions.
