The inaugural edition of the ancient football tournament of the UNITY of Oracle Mbaise’s ancient kingdom is destined to start this October in Oboama/Umunama, Ezinihitte Mbaise LGA, state of IMO. The basic competition, which will last until January 3, 2026, is staged in loving memory of the legendary football icon, Ezeji Hi-Chief Christopher A. Nwandiko (Ugo 1 of Oboama/Umunama).
Fooded by Ezeji Obinna Nwandiko, popularly known as Oracle, the tournament is designed to show raw talent, promote the unity between the villages and strengthen the culture of sports development in the Mbaise nation. Oboama/Umunama, called with affection “obo/umu” and considered the headquarters of the creation and the ancestral house of all Ezinihitte clans, will serve as a symbolic headquarters for the first historical edition.
A total of 18 villages will fight for the honors in the competition, including Uruekwere, Umuohii, Umuatum, Umuogwogwo, Umuosehi, Umuozuzu, Ogbor, Umuoduku, Nru, Umunehi, Umualika, Amagu, Umuome, Avoh, Umuoshi, Okwua, and Oguna. The organizers say that the Unity Cup will not only provide entertainment, but will also act as fertile terrain for future stars that could arise from the base to represent the state, the nation and even shine in the international phases.
Speaking with our correspondent, Hon. Engr. Andyson Obani U-Alaribe, of the direction of advertising-unplugged recovery evaluator of the Premier League of Nigeria and the Sport-Sport-Hoescondo management consultant for the late icon for his contributions to the game. “Ezeji was a legend and his memories still live. I will tell you more about him as soon as possible. He remains in contact,” he observed. With the support of the FIFA fair play initiative and the basic development agenda of the Nigerian football federation, the Oracle Unity Cup 2025/26 should merge the competition with the spirit of the community, honor a legend, combine villages and inspire the next generation of football talent.
