The Federal Government has issued a directive that imposes on all vice-changers, in the rectors and in charge of the Nigerian tertiary institutions to publish key institutional data on their official websites by 31 May 2025, in an attempt to promote transparency and good government.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Morufu-Tunji Alausa, stressed that the move is designed to improve responsibility within the country’s higher education system.

According to a declaration by the director of the press and public relations of the Ministry, BorioWo Folasade, the institutions are required to disclose detailed information on their budget allocations, research bags and student population.

The Ministry directive requires that the institutions publish a distribution of their annual budget allocation, clearly outlining the expenses in three critical areas: personnel costs, general costs and capital expenses.

In addition, universities must reveal the revenues of their research of the previous year, in detail the source of these funds.

The subsidies should be divided into two categories: those of domestic sources such as local industries, government agencies or foundations and those of international sources such as foreign institutions and development partners.

The institutions are also required to show their tetfund allocation for the current year, showing the total amount received for academic and infrastructure development.

Another crucial dissemination is the endowment fund, which reflects the funds donated or invested to guarantee long -term financial health of the institution.

This must be updated quarterly to ensure that the public is kept informed about any changes.

In addition, the tertiary institutions must provide data on their total student population, distinguishing between university students and post -laurea, which will provide a complete overview of enrollments
Figures.

The Ministry stressed that all the information disseminated must be presented in an intuitive and easily accessible format, ensuring that the parties concerned-as parents, students and other interested parties-they easily identify and understand the data.

To ensure adherence to this new policy, the Ministry of Education will carry out periodic reviews of institutional websites. The institutions found in violation of the directive will have to face appropriate administrative actions.

These reviews will not only evaluate compliance, but they will also inform future political decisions aimed at promoting transparency in the nation’s tertiary education sector.
