Paris Olympics: Morocco surrenders and draws 2-2 with Argentina in the first group match

Argentina scored a stoppage-time goal to hold Morocco to a 2-2 draw in their opening Group B match at the Paris Olympics on Wednesday.

Paris Saint-Germain right-back Achraf Hakimi captained the Moroccan side, while Manchester City strikers Julián Álvarez and Nicolás Otamendi played for Argentina.

Morocco looked set for a shock win against two-time Olympic football champions Argentina after Soufiane Rahimi scored twice in the 45+2 and 51 minutes.

Argentina pulled one back through Simeone in the 68th minute before Cristian Medina equalised in the 16th minute of added time.

In Group C, Spain, winners of the Olympic football gold medal at Barcelona 1992, defeated Uzbekistan 2-1.

Brazil, which won Olympic football gold at Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020, failed to qualify for this summer’s games.
