The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for the immediate and unconditional release of its voters, members and supporters arrested in the ongoing Edo governorship election.
The party’s demands were contained in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba.
The PDP stressed that police harassment would not stop its gubernatorial candidate, Asue Ighodalo, from winning.
The party claimed that the arrests were part of a coordinated plan by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in connivance with some Police officials to intimidate and oppress the people of the state.

The statement read: “The PDP states that this is part of a coordinated plan by the APC in connivance with some compromised Police officers to harass, intimidate and oppress the people of Edo State after realising that they have lost the general elections.
“A case in point is the Gestapo-style kidnapping of a voter by APC-controlled gunmen in Uromi Ward 8, Unit 3, as he was about to cast his vote. This cowardly act further confirms that the APC is panicking and has surrendered to imminent defeat in the election.
“Nigerians may recall that our Party had severally warned of the APC’s disturbing plans to subvert the electoral process by terrorizing the electorate after realizing that our candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, was sailing to victory, with the overwhelming support and solidarity of the people of Edo State.
“APC and their compromised police personnel should know that the game is over and that the people of Edo State will never cower to surrender in the face of aggression or terror. They have rejected APC, and nothing will make them change this resolve.
“PDP urges the people of Edo State to remain resilient and continue to defend their democratic rights, voice and ultimate victory in the elections.”
