Police bust robbery syndicate in Ibadan, recover goods worth N100 million

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested ten suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate in Ibadan, and recovered stolen goods worth about ₦100 million during the operation.

The arrests were made in the area of ​​the Genesis Hotel in Challenge, following weeks of surveillance by agents acting on credible intelligence.

This was revealed in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, issued on Sunday in Ibadan.

Those arrested include Mukaila Omorayo (48), Adekanbi Adesola (39), Ahmed Oderinlo (38), Samuel Omoseyin (53), Ramon Saheed (52), Monilola Ajayi (58), Akanbi Bisi (51), Wasilat Abdullahi (48), Bolaji Tanimola (51), and Adeola Oyesina (51).

According to police, the suspects were linked to a gang known for hijacking containers and diverting valuables to various states.

The spokesperson said, “Command officers, acting on credible intelligence, carried out surveillance for weeks before successfully arresting a notorious syndicate of armed robbers at their hideout located in the Genesis Hotel area, Challenge, Ibadan.

“The criminal gang, known for hijacking containers at gunpoint and diverting valuables, operated across state lines and was intercepted, leading to the arrest of ten suspects at the scene.

“The suspects include Mukaila Omorayo (male, 48 years), Adekanbi Adesola (male, 39 years), Ahmed Oderinlo (male, 38 years), Samuel Omoseyin (male, 53 years), Ramon Saheed (male, 52 years), Monilola Ajayi (female, 58 years), Akanbi Bisi (female, 51 years), Wasilat Abdullahi (female, 48 years), Bolaji Tanimola (male, 51 years), and Adeola Oyesina (female, 51 years).

“A large amount of stolen items were recovered from the suspects, including forty (40) AC units, ten (10) washing machines, one electric motorbike, assorted creams, seven cutting machines, fifteen packs of LED lights, twenty-five packs of chewing gum, many trailer spare parts, women’s hair relaxer, wigs, chins, as well as furniture and painter’s materials. ₦100,000,000.00.

“The suspects have admitted their various involvement in the crimes and are currently cooperating with the investigation. Their confessions assist ongoing efforts to capture other members of the syndicate who remain at large.”

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Olugbenga Abimbola, commended the officers involved for their professionalism and diligence in cracking the case.

He also thanked the public for providing useful information, and emphasized that such cooperation remains important in eradicating crime.

The command urges residents to continue supporting law enforcement agencies to improve safety and security across the state.

Police also advised hotel operators to be more vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities.

“Investigations have revealed that many criminal elements often hibernate in hotels to plan and carry out their operations. Therefore, the management of the hotels mentioned in this case have been invited for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.

“The suspects will be charged in court once the investigation is complete.”

The command reiterated its commitment to protect lives and property, urging citizens to remain alert and immediately report any suspicious movement to the nearest police station.
