PDP is not ready for the 2027 election, Wike Asserts

Federal Capital Region Minister (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has questioned the readiness of the people’s Democratic Party (PDP) to challenge all Progressive Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election, describing the opposition party as lack of cohesion and seriousness.

Speaking during Parley Media directly in Abuja on Friday, Wike, a former governor and supporter of the PDP who is now serving in the Tinubu Bola Presidential Cabinet, believes that PDP is hampered by internal divisions and struggles for power that threatens the prospects of its election.

“PDP is not ready for the 2027 election. It is very clear,” he said. “This is like someone who pretended to prepare themselves for examinations -bring books around just to be seen learning, without real efforts. That’s PDP. They don’t read. They just act like that.”

Wike’s statement came in the midst of sustainable efforts by opposition figures to form united political coalitions capable of challenging APC dominance in the next election cycle. However, the talks have been disturbed by conflicting interests and disputes of factions, especially in PDP.

He warned that sustainable internal party quarrels had damaged all opportunities for the revival ahead of the next national poll.

“The struggle for power cannot help the party,” he added, emphasizing that unity and strategic focus, not magnificent, will be the key to regaining power.

Wike’s comments are likely to further deepen the tension in the PDP, where its proximity felt to the Federal Government led by APC has attracted criticism from the party loyalist who views the role of the minister as betrayal of the opposition objectives.

Apart from criticism, Wike still did not regret about his political attitude, insisting that his actions were driven by a commitment to national development and good government than party loyalty.
