PDP urges Nigerians to promote democratic principles

The Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday urged the Nigerians and development partners to unite in promoting democratic principles in the country.

The party made a call in a statement issued by the secretary of its national publicity, Debo Oologunagba, in Abuja, to mark this year’s democratic day.

These principles, according to Oologunagba, including justice, the rule of law, the credible election process, and the right of citizens to participate freely in politics and government in Nigeria.

He urged the Nigerians to use the opportunity for June 12, Democracy Day, to strengthen their resistance to all forms of unusematic practices, especially every effort to make Nigeria a party of one party.

Oologunagba emphasized that Democracy Day realized the struggle by the Nigerians on all forms of “oppressive systems that were oppressed, without law driven by impunity, high-level fraud and anti-people tendencies.”

He said: “It also represents the pressure by Nigeria for a system that is responsible to the people, operating based on the rule of law and the principles of democratic freedom, justice, justice, equality, credible elections, national cohesion, transparency, and accountability in governments scated by the Head of MKO Abiola and died.

“These are democratic values ​​enjoyed by Nigerians under PDP.”

OsoMunagba urged the National Assembly, Judiciary, Independent National Election Commission (Inec), and other democratic institutions in the country to emphasize their constitutional independence.

He also asked democratic institutions to operate only based on the rule of law and the collective interests of the people in promoting the principles of democracy.

He, however, advised the party of all Progressive (APC)- leading administration to respect the memory of Abiola by complying with the rule of law, the principle of separation of power, free press, and credible elections.

Oologunagba also emphasized the need for the independence of the National Assembly and other democratic institutions, especially Inec and Judicial.
