President Bola Ahmed Tinubu derived the in -depth crises within the opposition parties, describing their internal disunion as a welcome development that strengthens the sentence of all progressives (APC).
Speaking during a joint session of the National Assembly on Thursday, as part of the activities that marked the day of the Democracy of 2025, Tinubu declared that he had derived satisfaction from looking at the Democratic Party of the Peoples (PDP), the Labor Party (LP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) descends to internal turbulence.
The president, who turned to the legislators of the Chamber of Representatives of the House of Representatives, said that the opposition parties should seek inland for the causes of their instability instead of looking for goals.
“The fear of political parties for the departure of members can be better served by examining their internal processes and affairs, rather than evoking demons that do not exist,” said Tinubu, drawing on strong applause from the legislators and supporters of the APC.
Continuing, he said: “For me, I wouldn’t say that you do your best to put your home in order, and I wouldn’t help you even do it. It is really a pleasure to testify to you in such a disorder.”
His observations come against the background of a wave of defections at the APC, while the general elections of 2027 begin to model the political landscape.
The data of both the chambers of the National Assembly indicate a constant erosion of the opposition force from the inauguration of the tenth assembly in 2023.
The APC has increased its domain in the Senate from 59 seats to 68, while the presence of the PDP was reduced from 36 to 30 seats.
The Labor Party now holds only five seats, from eight, and the NNPP has come down from two to one.
In the Chamber of Representatives, the opposition parties held 182 seats 360 in 2023. That number has now reduced to 150, further consolidating the socket of the party in power over federal legislative power.
The Tinubu address has replaced a national transmission previously to commemorate the Democracy Day, which honors the legacy of the deceased Moshood Kashimawo Abiola, winner of the cancellation elections canceled of 12 June 1993.
Observers believe that the president’s observations reflect a growing trust within the APC while capitalizing the internal implosions that face his political rivals.
However, critics claim that the hoax of the president of the opposition could further undermine democratic consolidation and promote a party state if left uncontrolled.
