Police foil IED attack in Lagos

Nigeria Police Force (NPF) operatives have foiled an improvised explosive device (IED) attack in Ikeja area of Lagos State.

The Force’s Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, made this known through a statement on Wednesday, July 31, 2024.

Adejobi, who stressed that the IED attack was foiled by the operatives on Wednesday, urged Lagosians to remain vigilant and be aware of their surroundings, as well as report any unusual or suspicious behavior to security operatives.

The police spokesperson said: “Following a recent incident involving the discovery and successful detonation of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on 31 July 2024, by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Unit of the Nigerian Police Force, along Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, Ikeja, Lagos, the Nigerian Police Force wishes to advise all citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or objects to the nearest police station.

“All members of the public are urged to remain alert and aware of their surroundings, reporting any unusual or suspicious behavior. When encountering an unfamiliar or suspicious object, please do not touch or move it. Instead, keep a safe distance and notify the Police immediately.

“The Nigerian Police reiterates that its primary responsibility is to protect the lives and property of our citizens. As the Nigerian Police work tirelessly to further investigate the source of the IED carriers planted in Lagos, disrupt their plans and arrest those involved, the cooperation of well-meaning members of the public is critical in these critical times.

“It is pertinent to state that the intentions of the criminal individuals, who acted as terrorists by placing the IEDs at that strategic location, were purely to destroy homes, structures and innocent citizens who might have passed through the path where the items were recovered.

“It is not out of place, however, to be vigilant to detect such parcels or unusual packages in our vicinity to avoid any bad incidence.”
