Police kill kidnap gang leader in Ogun

Police agents in Ogun have killed a suspected kidnapping kingpin in the state.

The suspect was killed in an intelligence-led operation at a hideout in the Orile Ilugun forest area along the Abeokuta-Ibadan Expressway.

Babaseyi disclosed this in a statement in Abeokuta, Tuesday.

He said an AK-47 rifle containing 20 rounds of 5.6mm ammunition, N2 million cash and two mobile phones were recovered during the operation.

He explained that the operation followed the successful rescue of a victim who was kidnapped on Thursday at the Nufats fuel station on the Abeokuta-Ibadan expressway in Odeda local government area of ​​the state.

According to him, the victim regained his freedom without injury on Monday evening.

“After the victim was released, members of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad intensified intelligence-based efforts to arrest the gang members responsible for the kidnapping.

“Consequently, on Tuesday at around 6am, officers, acting on credible intelligence, raided the kidnappers’ hideout in Orile Ilugun forest axis.

“On seeing the police officers, the kidnappers opened fire, resulting in a gun duel.

“Officers responded with superior tactical firepower, leading to the neutralization of the gang kingpin, while other syndicate members fled into the woods with gunshot wounds,” the spokesperson said.
