Police Nab Ex-Soldier, four more on robbery, kidnapping in Anambra

The State Police Command of Ambra arrested five suspicious members of a violent armed and kidnapping robbery, including a former soldier who abandoned the Nigerian army.

The command spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, revealed it in a declaration on Thursday, noting that the suspicions were arrested following an operation led by intelligence from the quick response team to Awkuzu on Wednesday 27 August 2025.

Ikenga said the arrests arrived after the kidnapping of a farmer in Isiagu, Awka. The victim was subsequently released after a redemption was paid.

By acting in credible intelligence, the agents stormed the hiding place of the band in Notoko, Awka, where the suspicions were overwhelmed and taken in custody.

The suspicions arrested were identified as Dominic Oraz, 38 years old, a deserter of the confessed army; Michael Nwobodo, 30 years old; Friday Eze of 29 years; 23 year old Uche Okolo; And the 29 year old Chindu Gilbert.

The objects recovered from the band include six pumping rifles, 63 shots of live cartridges, five machetes, two containers for police tears, handcuffs, a military cap, a pitcar of a thief, criminal spells, three Walkie-Talkie of Motorola, a jack knife, a microscope, an electric bank and N26,000 in cash.

“During the interrogation, Oraz admitted that he had abandoned the Nigerian army in November 2024.

Investigations are underway in collaboration with the military authorities to determine his service record and guide further suspicions procedures, “said Ikenga.

The Police Commissioner of Anambra, CP Ikioye Orutuug, praised the agents for successful raid and invited the residents to remain vigilant.

He assured that the command was committed to dismantling criminal networks and safeguarding lives and properties throughout the state.
