Political action can reduce atmospheric pollution by 2040 – World Bank – BluePrint Newspapers Limited

A new report from the World Bank reveals that targeted political action could reduce exposure to dangerously high levels of air pollution by 2040.

The report states that outdoor air pollution causes about 5.7 million deaths every year.

It also stressed that 95 % of these deaths occur in low and medium income countries.

Air pollution is also responsible for losses equivalent to almost 5 % of global GDP, due to health impacts, lost productivity and reduced life expectancy.

The report, entitled “accelerating access to clean air on a livable planet”, underlined that political changes in sectors such as agriculture, urban development, transport, industry and residential cooking could significantly reduce harmful particulates (PM2.5).

He underlined that the integration of pollution management policies could produce economic benefits up to 2.4 trillion dollars by 2040.

“In addition, cross -border cooperation is essential to effectively tackle the problem.”

Axel Van Trotsenburg, Senior CEO of the World Bank Senior, observed that the improvement of air quality was both a need for health and economic, with solutions that can be made in sight through a leadership and targeted investments.

“The good news is that the solutions are at hand.

“By focusing on the sectors that have the greatest impact and exploiting a strong leadership, data and funding, we can guarantee a cleaner and healthier air in our life.”

The report outlines three priorities for political managers to guarantee clean air: strengthen governance, improve data on air quality and integrate public resources with private investments.
