Rivers Angels were awarded a penalty late in the first half after Adebayo Jumai handled the ball inside the area.
Blessing Okpe crashed the ball past Naija Ratels goalkeeper Faith Omilani.
The former champions of the Nigerian Women’s Football League had other opportunities to make the score more convincing, but were let down by poor finishing.
They needed a great save from goalkeeper Agatha Thompson to prevent Naija Ratels from scoring a late equaliser.
