President Tinubu approves the appointment of Danfulani as Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation MD

Abuha (basic reporter) in an attempt to strengthen the framework for Nigerian farmers and expand access to the president of the agricultural insurance Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved the appointment of Yazid Shehu Danfulani as CEO and CEO of the Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation (Naic).

The appointment was formally transmitted in a letter dated 22 May 2025 and signed by Senator George Akume, secretary of the Federation Government (SGF).

According to the letter, the appointment of Danfulani has effect from 21 May 2025, for an initial period of four years, in accordance with section 15 (A) of the Naic law, laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

Danfulani, the Turakin Zamfara, should lead to Naic of new vigor and strategic direction, a critical institution responsible for the supply of insurance coverage to the agricultural sector of Nigeria against risks such as drought, parasites, diseases and other natural catastrophes.

Danfulani, an expert administrator and banker, obtained a degree in Business Economics and a Master in Art and Management from the University of Hertfordshire, in the United Kingdom. He held remarkable roles at the Nigeria Central Bank (CBN) and previously was commissioner for trade and industry in the state of Zamfara.

In the appointment letter, Akume observed that the emoluments and conditions of service of Danfuflani would be guided by the provisions of “some owners of political, public and judicial offices (salaries and indemnities, etc.) (amendment) Act, 2008”.

The appointment has been widely applauded as recognition of the qualities of leadership, technical competence and commitment of Danfulani for national development.

Danfulani should focus on strengthening the insurance framework for Nigerian farmers, in the expansion of access to agricultural insurance and in ensuring that Naic plays a key role in the country’s food safety strategy.
