The Police Services Commission (PSC) has moved away from a recently widespread advertisement that announces the beginning of the admissions in the twelfth graduation programs in the regular course of the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State.
In a declaration issued on Thursday, the Commission sentenced advertising, which described as a clear violation of the constitutional procedures, underlining that it was not consulted and that the announcement was lacking in necessary contributions from the main parties concerned.
The announcement had declared that the online application would be opened from 28 July to 8 September 2025, but the PSC stated that the publication was a “unresolved attempt to undermine the Commission”, which has the constitutional authority to recruit the police forces of Nigeria, also through the Academy.
Referring to the judgment of the Court of Appeal in PSC v. Inspector General of Police & 3 Ors and the subsequent statement by the Supreme Court, the Commission reiterated its exclusive mandate to appoint people in the police forces.
“The Commission will continue to resist and condemn any action by any person, organ or authority that violates the provisions of the Constitution”, reads the declaration.
The PSC has observed that the recruitment in the police should be a collaborative effort that involves the Ministry of Police Affairs, the Federal Commission of the characters and the Nigerian police forces, warning that the inability to include these interested parties opens the doors to corruption, nepism and other irregularities.
He also criticized the trial introduced by the Police Academy, describing it as “chaotic, confused and deliberately designed to create space for corruption”.
The Commission also sentenced the imposition of a registration fee to ₦ 6,000 on the candidates, stating that the recruitment exercise should be completely free.
In addition, the PSC was leaving the decision to centralize the screening process in Kano, insisting on the fact that he had not placed a useless burden for candidates and could trigger crises avoidable due to the logistical and financial tension that imposes on candidates and their families.
The Commission reiterated its commitment to align the police recruitment processes with the best global practices, transparency and equity in line with the renewed agenda of the hope of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Consequently, the PSC declared a null and empty of advertising and urged the public to ignore it completely, underlining that the commission would not have been held responsible for any actions deriving from the unauthorized publication.
