Rapting of the band crashes in Nasarawa with ₦ 6.9 m of redemption, recovered weapons

A kidnapping union removed the fortune on Monday in Nasarawa’s state after a terrible accident exposed their operations, leading to the recovery of a cache of weapons and ₦ 6.9 million redemption.

The accident occurred in Angwan Mayo, in the local government area of Kokona, when the Opel Vectra of the band, with the Alteau Bld 566 ST recording number, lost control near a checkpoint of a vehicle inspection officer (Vio).

The Nasarawa State Police Command said that two of the suspicions fled immediately after the accident, but were forced to abandon their booty.

The manager of the police public relations, DSP Ramhan Nansel, revealed that an official vigilant of Vio had already intercepted part of the articles from the vehicle before the agents arrived on the scene.

“The vehicle was subsequently towed to the police station where in-depth research led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, a type 06 rifle, a G3 rifle, three magazines and 57 live ammunition strokes. Also recovered was a total cash sum of ₦ 6.908.150,” said Nansel.

A joint police and a military operation later followed the suspects on the run in the forest, arresting Mohammed Tahir of Barkin Ladi, Plateau State, who confessed to be part of a band of seven men.

During the interrogation, according to reports, Tahir admitted that the group recently kidnapped an lawyer to Nyanya, Abuja, from which the redemption was collected. He added that they were heading to Jos to share the proceeds when the accident interrupted their escape.

The police said that efforts to arrest the other members of the fleeing band are underway.

In the meantime, the state police commissioner praised residents for their supervision and assured that the command, in collaboration with the twin security agencies, would have supported the blocking of criminal gangs in Nasarawa and in the neighboring states.
