Real Madrid began their La Liga title defence with a draw against Mallorca

Real Madrid were held to a 1-1 draw against Mallorca in their opening game of the La Liga season on Sunday.

Kylian Mbappe made his La Liga debut in that match, but was unable to help his team to victory.

Recall that the French forward scored on his debut for the club in the 2-0 UEFA Super Cup win over Atalanta.

But his efforts against Mallorca all proved in vain as his shots were mostly stopped by the home keeper.

Rodrygo curled home a beautiful backheel pass from Vinicius Junior to put Carlo Ancelotti’s side ahead.

But Vedat Muriqi equalised with a header from Dani Rodriguez’s cross, and the hosts held on to secure a point from the meeting against the champions.

Madrid ended the game with 10 men after defender Ferland Mendy was sent off in added time for a lunge on goalscorer Muriqi.
