Nigerian Afrobeats star, Rema, has been announced as one of the headliners at the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States.
FIFA confirmed on Saturday that the “Calm Down” singer will perform alongside South African star Tyla, American rapper Future, pop icon Katy Perry, Brazilian singer Anitta and BLACKPINK member LISA during the Los Angeles celebrations on June 12, 2026.
According to soccer’s governing body, the 2026 tournament will feature three separate opening ceremonies in the host countries—Mexico, Canada and the United States. The first ceremony will take place in Mexico City on June 11, while Toronto and Los Angeles will host the event on June 12.
FIFA said the ceremony was designed to combine football, music and entertainment in what it described as an important cultural celebration across North America.
“For the first time in the history of the FIFA World Cup, new benchmarks will be set through three spectacular opening ceremonies held in Mexico City, Toronto and Los Angeles,” FIFA said in a statement.
The organization added that the show in Los Angeles will begin 90 minutes before kick-off and will feature immersive storytelling, large-scale visuals and performances built around the FIFA World Cup. More artists are also expected to be announced in the coming months.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino said the line-up reflects the diversity of American culture and global musical influences.
“The lineup reflects the cultural diversity of the United States and the spirit of its diaspora, while showcasing the power of music to unite communities,” Infantino said.
The ceremony was produced in collaboration with Balich Wonder Studio, a creative company known for hosting international live events and sports spectacles.
