The Chamber of Representatives invited the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in the health sector in the territory of the Federal Government (FCT).
The call followed the adoption of a motion by the Nnamdi Ezechi (PDP-Delta) representative to the plenary on Wednesday in Abuja.
The house requested the release of emergency funds for the updating of hospitals, the recruitment of medical staff and the acquisition of critical medical equipment.

By moving the motion previously, Ezechi said that there was an alarming tension on the health system in the FCT with government hospitals and seriously too tense medical structures.
He explained that this led to a critical deficiency of bed spaces and medical staff.
He said that the population of the FCT had increased significantly in the last two decades, while many of the existing government hospitals have been built with little or no expansion to satisfy the growing demand for health services. (Nan)
