Residents killed as Boko Haram rebels attack Yobe village

Suspected Boko Haram insurgents on Sunday night attacked Mafa village in Tarmuwa Local Government Area of ​​Yobe State and killed several people.

State police spokesman Dungus Abdulkarim confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday in Damaturu.

He said the incident was reported to the Tarmuwa Division Police Office by local residents, Babagana Goni and Bako Ibrahim.

The spokesman added that the rebels armed with rifles and RPGs arrived in the community on more than 50 motorbikes and burned down a number of shops and houses in the village.

He said: β€œWe are yet to ascertain the number of casualties in the incident that occurred around 4:00 pm on Sunday in the remote village.

β€œThe incident was reported to the Tarmuwa Divisional Police Station by Babagana Goni and Bako Ibrahim, both residents of Mafa.

β€œSuspected Boko Haram terrorists armed with rifles and RPGs attacked Mafa area on over 50 motorcycles and burnt down many shops and houses.

β€œTerrorists also killed many people, but we cannot yet confirm the actual number of victims.”
