Revision of the Constitution: Kalu reveals the compendium of 86 invoices, looking for a public contribution
On Wednesday, the Commission of the Chamber of Representatives for the Constitution led by the vice -president, Benjamin Kalu, presented a summary summary of 86 revision invoices of the Constitution currently in question.
This is seen by the interested parties as a significant step towards the constitutional reform by the committee chaired by the vice -president of the Chamber, RT. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu.
The compendium is organized in 13 thematic areas, including electoral reforms, judicial reforms, legislature, inclusive governance, security and police, devolution of powers and strengthening of the institutions.
Others are traditional institutions, tax reforms, citizenship and indigenieships, fundamental human rights, reform of the local government and creation of local states and governments.
Contacting a press conference together with some members of the Abuja Committee, the vice -president and president of the panel, Kalu, said that the compendium provides a complete overview of the proposed amendments, including explanatory Memorandums, long securities and detailed exhibitions of each invoice.
He also stated that the move aims to promote public commitment and solicit inputs by the Nigerians on the proposed legislative reforms, revealing that the Chamber intends to use the feedback collected by the public to inform its decisions when the invoices are issued for the vote.
Kalu added that zonal public hearings will be held across the country, where the interested parties and the members of the public will have the opportunity to examine the invoices, ask for clarifications and provide constructive inputs.
He said: “86 Projects for reviewing the Constitution currently in question in the Chamber will be presented to the general public in the form of a compressed compendium consisting of a collection of explanatory memorandums, long securities and a complete exposure of the invoices for their inputs.
“The bills, sponsored by the members of the Chamber, represent legislative efforts aimed at facing various development challenges that affect governance practices in Nigeria.

“The Committee of the Chamber of Representatives on the revision of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is committed to guaranteeing a wider participation by the Nigerians and other parties interested in the process in progress of the Constitution. To achieve this, we will embark with zonal public hearings in 12 centers through the six geopolitical areas in Nigeria.

Kalu encouraged the members of the public to download the compendium, review the proposed invoices and provide feedback to inform the legislative process.
