Rivers crisis: the administrator only convenes Fubara, deputy for the probe

The only administrator of the State, deputy Admiral (RETD.) IBOK-ETE EKWE IBAS, summoned the suspended governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, dr. Ngozi Ordu, to appear in front of him to the government’s house in Port Harcourt.

The convocation, made public through a special announcement Tuesday and signed by the Secretary of the State Government, Prof. Ibibia Lucky Worika, is part of what officials have described as “an official investigation into the appointments taken in the last two years” under the administration of Fubara.

According to the declaration, Fubara should submit a complete series of documents that justify the appointments made during its office period, including the criteria, procedures and logic that have guided every decision.

The declaration stated in part: “The only administrator, deputy admiral (RTD.) IBOK-ETE EKWE IBAS, CFR, formally summoned the suspended governor of the state of sparrows, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, and his deputy, Dr. Ngozi Ordu, to appear in front of him for an investigation on the appointments under their administration in the past for two years.”

“Sir Fubara is aimed at submitting all the relevant documents and registers relating to appointments, including justifications and procedures followed during his mandate.

The session will also serve as an opportunity for the suspended governor to provide a clear and detailed explanation as to why he believes it should be restored in office. “

The hearing was scheduled for Friday 18 April 2025 at 10:00 in the Conference Room of the Fivers State Government House.

The announcement stressed that participation is mandatory for both Fubara and Ortu, describing the investigation as part of IBAS’s efforts to “restore transparency, responsibility and lasting peace in the state of governance of the state of the rivers”.

The development adds another layer to the political atmosphere already tense in the state of oil rich in, in which a power struggle between opposite factions of the political elite has attracted national attention.

The critics raised their eyebrows for the legitimacy of a single administrator who wears a democratically elected governor, with some doubts if the investigation violates the constitutional protections such as immunity for the governors seated.
