
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos has congratulated the elder statesman and leader of Afenifere, Reuben Fasoranti, on his birth centenary.
Sanwo-Olu, who is also the Chairman of the South West Governors Forum, described Fasoranti as a committed leader and one of the surviving disciples of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
The governor, in a statement issued on Sunday in Lagos by Gboyega Akosile, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, lauded Fasoranti’s contributions to the development of Yorubaland and Nigeria.
He described the Afenifere leader as a respected and passionate statesman, whose contributions to education, leadership and public service remained indelible.
Sanwo-Olu said Fasoranti had positively impacted many lives, through courageous and uncompromising leadership, stressing that his commitment to public service and community development was commendable.
According to him, the people of Yorubaland appreciate Fasoranti’s leadership over the years and are proud to celebrate his centenary.
“On behalf of my family, the government and people of Lagos State, as well as my brother governors of the South West, I congratulate the leader of Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, on the celebration of his centenary.
“Pope Fasoranti has made a very positive impact in Yorubaland and has accomplished great feats as the leader of Afenifere by steering the ship of pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organization in the right direction.
“He has been dedicated and committed to the Nigeria project since his years of operation.
“We appreciate his commitment to the fight for truth, fairness, justice, true federalism and good governance, which he has supported for many decades,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu said reaching the age of 100 in good health and with a sound mind is worthy of gratitude to God, asking God to grant Fasoranti years of greater impact.
“As Pa Reuben Fasoranti celebrates his centenary, I pray that Almighty God continues to bless him with good health, wisdom, knowledge and understanding in his old age,” the governor said.
