Senator Imesuen speaks of growing criticisms of the legislature, executive relationships

Abuja (Core reporter) Senator Neda Iansuen, representing Edo South in the National Assembly, discovered his mind on various national issues, including the growing criticisms of the cordial relationship between the legislator and the executive.

Senator Imesuen, president of the Senate Committee for ethics, privileges and public petitions, said that a healthy relationship between Parliament and the executive should not be exchanged for weakness by the legislator, rather than the healthy relationship between the two government bodies is oriented towards good government.

Senator Imesuen made him known on Thursday 22 May 2025, in a chat with journalists selected at his office of the National Assembly in Abuja, while insisting that the cooperation between government weapons should not be exchanged by submission.

According to him, “if a good workmanship arrives, I will support him regardless of where he comes from – manager or member. If it is what people call the rubber stamp, then so it is,” he said.

On the galley of Defettions the country is currently assisting and fears of a single party state, IMASUEN has minimized the alarms, describing the change of party as a constitutional right protected under freedom of association.

“The defection is not a crime.” He said: “Once the PDP ruled Nigeria with the domain and then it was not called a party state.

He rejected the suggestions that the growing domain of the party to power could threaten democracy, pushing the national unity between current security and economic challenges instead.

On the controversial wave of the invoices that propose new universities and institutions despite the abused economy of Nigeria, the senator has recognized the financial tension but stressed that legislators still have the right to propose this legislation.

“The problem does not concern the proposal of an invoice, these are funding. If the budget cannot bring it, then it will not be implemented,” he explained.

By addressing the next national security summit, IMASUEN expressed optimism, stating that, unlike the past administrations, President Tinubu would probably have acted on the resolutions of the summit.

“Even the eighth and ninth Senate did this, but their recommendations have collected dust. This time, I think the president Tinubu will take security seriously,” he said.

Reflecting on the journey of the tenth Senate, Senator Imesuen admitted that he had been a rocky beginning, largely due to the economic disorder inherited from the current government.

“The last administration was Akimbo and did nothing. This administration made bold, sometimes painful decisions,” he said, praising the courage of Tinubu in facing issues such as the VAT reform and the need for a national audit of the population.

He said, national development requires a collective effort while praising the political will of the Tinubu administration in confronting the harsh truths.

“We are on a hard but necessary road. If we remain the path, we will see the progress,” he said.
