Skills Acquisition Programme: NASENI trains Osun youth on modern shoemaking and tailoring

 

The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has launched a training programme to acquire skills in modern footwear and tailoring for the youths in Ife, Osun State.

The three-day intensive training, which will commence on Monday, July 8, 2024 and end on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, will be held at the NASENI Skill Acquisition Centre located in the Federal Constituency of Ife, Osun State.

NASENI Executive Vice President/CEO, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, ably represented by the Director, Production Services, Directorate of Engineering Infrastructure, Engineer Dr. Olayode Adesola Olasupo, while declaring the opening of the programme, said that it would provide participants with hands-on experience in modern tailoring and shoemaking techniques.

The EVC said NASENI, as an agency of the Federal Government under the Presidency, has the mandate to foster an adequate and dynamic scientific and engineering infrastructure base to achieve domestically initiated and sustained industrialization for Nigeria.

“To achieve this mandate, critical skills development of the workforce is needed. It is in this direction that we have embarked on the development of NASENI Skill Acquisition Centres across Nigeria. I am pleased to inform you that this NASENI Skill Acquisition Centre, Ife Federal Constituency where we are today, is the first of its kind in Osun State,” he said.

Mr. Halilu added that the training organized at the Centre is a testament to the Nigerian Federal Government’s Renewed Hope programme, which encompasses ending poverty, economic growth and job creation.
