Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, the Speaker Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, and the state Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Onochie Anyachebelu are expected to attend the 2023 press week, media summit and man of the year award ceremony organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Anambra State Council.
According to a statement from the State Council Chairman of NUJ, Dr Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, the national chairman of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Hon. Sly Ezeokenwa, would present a keynote address of the event which will hold on Thursday, November 2, 2023 at the Godwin Ezeemo Int’l Press Centre, Awka, Anambra state capital.
The APGA national chairman will speak on the theme of the NUJ press week tagged “Pragmatic Media Practice as an Antidote to Sustainable Development in a Distressed Economy: A Focus On Anambra State”, while the first female Professor of Mass Communication in Sub-saharan Africa, Professor Chinyere Stella Okunna, will chair the occasion.
He further announced that the Commissioner for Information, Hon. Paul Nwosu, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Hon Christian Aburime, including everal media chief executives, captains of industry, media managers and regulators as well as traditional rulers are expected at the event.
The press week which started with an interactive session by the APGA national chairman with members of the NUJ in the state, including those from print and broadcast media, online publishers, and bloggers will also feature presentation of Professor Chinyere Stella Okunna Ethical Journalist for the year 2023 award to the yet to be determined winner.
Chairman and Secretary, Planning Committee of the Anambra 2023 Press Week, Dr Njideka Ezeonyejiaku and Chukwuleta Chigozie, respectively in a statement they jointly issued reeled out other activities that will hold during the event to include: presentation of NUJ 2023 Anambra Man of the Year Award to Igwe (Pharm) Alex Uzo Onyido of Ogidi kingdom, and the 2022 NUJ Anambra Man of The Year to the deputy managing director, DMD, Zenith Bank plc, Dame Dr Adaora Umeoji (OON).
The chief host of the event and national president of NUJ, Chief Chris Isiguzo, is expected to attend the ceremony.
Some activities lined up ahead of the end of the press week include: visitations to three charity homes, Community Children Homes (Awka & Onitsha and Sickle Cell community home Agulu, as well as facility tour of Tiger Foods Company Ltd , novelty match between the NUJ team and state judiciary team.
There will be also NUJ outreach to the challenged/ displaced communities in three senatorial zones and karaoke night/ couples unification hour among others.
