‘System crash’ causes more than 100 driverless taxis to stop in traffic in China | World News

A system failure caused more than 100 driverless cars to suddenly stop in traffic in China.

Several passengers were stranded in their vehicles after a “system failure” caused the driverless robotaxis to stall Wuhan on Tuesday.

No injuries were reported.

A passenger said China media that their robotaxi stopped after turning a corner.

On-screen instructions then read: “The driving system is not working. Staff are expected to arrive in five minutes.”

Although some passengers were able to leave their cars, others were afraid to get out because they were stopped in the middle lane with traffic passing on both sides, according to local reports.

The taxis are operated by Baidu, a major internet and AI company in China will bring driverless taxis to the UK this year.

Baidu operates hundreds of robotaxis in Wuhan, which hosted an initial pilot project for the company.

uber and Lyft ‌both plan to launch driverless taxi trials with the company.

This is the first time a mass taxi shutdown has been reported in China.

In December, a lot of self-driving cars came in San Francisco operated by rival company Waymo suddenly stopped due to a power outage.

Baidu did not respond to a request for comment from the Associated Press news agency.
