There was a tension after a disturbing video from some armed men who turned on several trucks in Okigwe and Onuimo Regional Government in the IMO state, triggered fear when residents escaped for safety in the midst of violence, increasing insecurity in the region.
In the video shared on several social media platforms, several trucks were seen engulfed in fire while observers revealed surprises and sympathy when the fire raged.
In the video, an eyewitness was heard lamented the security situation that worsened and criticized the Governor of the State, Hope Uzodimma, describing his inactive and inability to curb violence in the state as a shame.
“Okigwe and Onuimo Lga caught fire when our governor was busy enjoying his new private jet,” the man sounded lamenting.
“Life and the nature of immolites are being destroyed by insecurity.”
The man continued to call the Governor to take immediate action or delegate security responsibilities to the local government or resign.
Speaking directly, he said:
“The dear governor, as you have proven to all those who are unable and paralyzed to handle security challenges in Okigwe and Onuimo, well releasing full allocation for this LGA to handle their own security challenges or you resign.
“Don’t you have human sympathy? Don’t you have human feelings? Are you comfortable with the pain and suffering of immolites?”
Other people also questioned the conscience of the governor, asking whether the screams of people meant something to him.
“The Governor hopes Uzodimma, please, where is your conscience? Do you not see or hear the calls of the people you ordered? What are the sins of people against those of you who have sworn to without mercy dealing with immolites?
“People are killed and property is being destroyed every day, while you and your family enjoy the state funds. If immolites are completely destroyed and destroyed, who will you order?”
Although it cannot be ascertained why armed people burned trucks or motives behind them, the residents of the area revealed that they had faced serious security threats from armed people who attacked without challenges from the security agency while the government had not done anything to fight their activities.
