The 60/40 split agreement thwarted Governor Bala Mohammed’s plans to switch to the APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State has suspended discussions with the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the defection of Governor Bala Mohammed to the party.

This was disclosed by the Chairman of the PDP in the state, Sama’ila Adamu-Burga, at a press conference on Saturday in Bauchi.

APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, and Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, recently visited Governor Mohammed and invited him to join the party.

However, Adamu-Burga said the PDP called off the discussions after the APC rejected the terms proposed to pave the way for the defection of Mohammed and other elected officials in the state.

He listed some of the terms rejected during discussions including a 60/40 split formula for the APC leadership, and a request for reimbursement of funds expended on Federal Government projects implemented by the PDP administration in the state.

“We would like to clarify that the initiative for this discussion came from the APC. His Excellency graciously responded out of respect for the prominent figures involved and maintaining his commitment to dialogue and inclusivity,” the PDP chairman said.

According to him, the governor, PDP and people of Bauchi State participated in the action in good faith.

“However, after extensive consultations with PDP stakeholders and careful consideration, it has become clear that the collectively proposed conditions for political realignment are not acceptable to the APC leadership.

“In light of this, we would like to announce that the discussions have not produced conclusive results and are hereby officially terminated.

“Therefore, the PDP in Bauchi State, in consultation with His Excellency and other key stakeholders, is actively considering all available political options and political parties other than the APC.

“This aims to determine the path forward that best suits the aspirations and best interests of the people of Bauchi State,” he added.

Adamu-Burga, who dismissed reports of factions within the PDP, said the party remained united and committed to strengthening internal democracy for sustainable development in the country.

“We remain committed to responsible leadership, inclusive governance and the continued progress of our beloved country,” he assured.

It also encouraged members to document and share evidence of their tree planting activities as part of efforts to promote responsibility and inspire broader public participation in environmental management. “The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago; the second best time is now,” Badmos said, urging immediate action rather than continued delays in addressing environmental challenges.
