The Committee of Representatives interrupts the appointment of Uniabuja VC

The Committee of the Chamber of Representatives for University Education states that the process of appointment of a new vice-challenge for the University of Abuja should be interrupted pending the result of the current investigations on the leadership fight that swing the institution.

The President of the Committee, Rep. Abubakar Fulaata (APC-Jigawa), made this known in a statement on Friday, after a round table with the deputy chief of actor, Prof. Patricia Lar.

Fulato appealed to the various parts to embrace the dialogue in order to guarantee stable academic activities in the University.

“We urge the interested parties to put on all the processes that will lead to the emergence of the new VC until the disputes that translate into the leadership fight are faced.

“The committee, under my leadership, is completely contrary to everything that will influence the calendar and the regular correction of the university system,” he said.

The legislator stated that following previous petitions on the dismissal of some vice-changers and on the dissolution of the government councils, the committee took measures to investigate the accusations to ascertain the right trial.

He said that efforts were underway to recover the 11,000 hectares of land belonging to the University but which were revoked by the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike.

The legislator said that the intervention followed a petition presented by the Alumni Association of the University, looking for the intervention of the Committee.

“The Committee of the Chamber for University Education took a step to intervene on the revocation of about 11,000 hectares of land belonging to the University of Abuja by the Minister of the Territory of the Federal capital, Nyasom Wike.

“The decision of the intervention of his committee was sequel to a petition by the Alumni Association of the University of Abuja, looking for Parliament’s intervention.

“The Association observed that Minister FCT is seizing 11,000 hectares of land from the University of Abuja, leaving the school with only 4,000 hectares,” he said.

For his part, Lar claimed to have less than a month to complete the six -month period to deliver his mandate, which was to manage the business of the institution, in view of the appointment of a substantial vice -changing.
