The former deputy plateau, Unijos VC, Tyoden, dies at 74

Sonni Gwanle Tyoden, professor and former deputy governor of the State of the Plateau from 2015 to 2023 under Simon Bako Lalong and former deputy chancellor of the University of Jos, died.

Tyoden died at the age of 74. Sunday 4 May 2025 in Jos, in the state of the plateau, in a short illness.

He had a distinct career in academic world and public service.

His death paid tribute from all over the state and beyond, also by Simon Bako Lalong, a senator on duty who was governor together with Tyoden during the eight -year mandate of the APC Rescue Administration.

LaLong led a delegation of former members of the cabinet in a visit of condolences to the residence of the Tyoden family in Rayfield, Jos, where he described the loss as deeply personal.

“I lost a confidant, a friend and a partner,” said Lalong

He described the deceased Tyoden as an ally, trusted teacher and mentor who played a vital role in the stabilization and strengthening of the state government during their administration.

He added that Tyoden’s wisdom and dedication were fundamental for the success of their government.

In a statement by Makut Simon Macham, Lalong spokesman, made available to journalists on Sunday in Jos, says that Tyoden’s contributions have extended far beyond politics.

As Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, he has been attributed the start of reforms that have transformed the institution and improved his academic position.

He has also led numerous students, many of whom have gone to excel in various professional fields.

“Tyoden left indelible footprints in the sands of the time after serving the nation in various positions including the deputy chancellor of the University of Jos where he shot the fortunes of the institution.

“As an academic, Prof. Tyoden has not only distinguished himself in teaching and research, but also guided many students who have increased at the height of their careers in various fields,” said Lalong.

He asked God to grant his soul eternal rest and comfort the family, in particular his wife Abigail Tyoden and children.

In an response on behalf of the family, Gyenu Tyoden expressed appreciation for the self -targeting condolences and support.

He thanked Lalong and his team for their visit and recognized the strong professional relationship that existed between the deceased and his former colleagues.

The family announced that the burial agreements would be communicated to the public in the next few days.

Tyoden, who greeted from the area of ​​the local government government of the state, survived his wife, Abigail Tyoden and children.
