25-year-old arrested on charges of killing two people and wounding three in Ogun knife attack

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man over the alleged stabbing of five persons, which left two dead and three others seriously injured in Olambe area of ​​Ifo Local Government Area of ​​the state..

Police spokesperson, DSP Okuseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday in Abeokuta, describing the attack as a violent fallout of unresolved trade disputes.

According to him, the attack occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, April 7, at around 1.38am, when the suspect armed himself with a knife and attacked the victims.

He said two of the victims – Gbadamasi Ibrahim, 25, and Chinedu, 40 – died while being rushed to hospital, where medical staff confirmed them dead on arrival.

Babaseyi added that three other victims: Mohammed Abubakar, 35; Ashiru Adamu, 25; and Paul Lawrence, 25, suffered serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment in a critical condition.

“The suspect allegedly stabbed five people after a failed business deal. He fled immediately after the attack,” the police spokesperson said.

However, he noted that investigators later followed up and arrested the suspect, who is now in police custody.

Police said the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for thorough investigation and prosecution.

Reacting to the incident, Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, condemned the attack, describing it as a “barbaric act” and assuring residents that justice will be served.

Ojajuni also urged the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities that could threaten peace and security in the State.

It has also released emergency contact numbers for residents to reach the command in times of emergency, including Gateway Shield (toll-free) 0800 000 9111 and emergency lines 0906 283 7609, 0912 014 1706, 0915 102 7369 and 0708 497 2994.

Police said investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances of the crash.
