The Ekiti State Government has accused that several members of the Congress of All Progressive (APC) planned a coordinated social media campaign against Governor Biodun Oyewbanji ahead of the Election of the Governor of the Party Scheduled for 27 October.
Head of the Press Secretary for the Governor, Yinka Oyebode, made accusations in a statement on Friday, claiming that more than 150 people, including leading national influences, had been contracted and paid to start next week attacks.
“Unlike previously sponsored media attacks on the governor and state governments treated with children’s gloves, this new plot will be treated with a decent seriousness,” Oyebode said. “The general public, security institutions, and all institutions that are relevant to this are included.”
According to him, the alleged sponsors of the plan were APC members who seeked to discredit the Governor and the main figures in the party and the state government through what he described as “fake accusations, documents falsified, and graphics produced by AI.”
The statement further links the group behind the planned attack with recent efforts to discredit the President of the Tinubu Bola, who allegedly used the Itawure-Aramoko-Edede Road project in the state as a pretext. Oyebode said the efforts to “fail sadly” because of the public rejection of the narrative.
He accused that this new strategy involved payment of 150 social media operations, with funds in foreign currencies, to carry out character murder and spread the ingredients that were forged.
“The government has chosen to remind the public about this big plot to prevent the possibility of violations of peace, other paths for self -help, and unnecessary tensions in government, which is the main intention of this despicable plot mastermind,” he said.
The government of the state of the Ekiti urged political actors, especially candidates for public office, to maintain politeness and comply with democratic rules when the election season approached.
“Biodun Abayomi Oyebbanji’s government welcomes constructive criticism and is ready to give a sincere answer to sincere questions about governance and management of our Commonwealth,” the statement said. “All candidates were also urged to make campaigns and public -based public involvement and to avoid sponsored social media or violent attacks.”
