Abuja (Reporter Core) The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) expressed sadness for the disappearance of the former police inspector, dr. Solomon Arase, a “human rights champion”.
The executive secretary of the Commission, dr. Tony Ojukwu (San), described the deceased ex PGI as an illustrious friend of the Commission and a sample of human rights.
Ojukwu said: “On behalf of the management and staff of the Commission, it extends our heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues and the entire police force of Nigeria.
“As a visionary leader, Arase brought transformative reforms to the Nigerian police forces, giving priority to the police focused on citizens and the protection of human rights. His institution of the unit of response to the complaint was a reference initiative, guaranteeing rapid responses to public complaints and promoting responsibility within the police.
“As a human rights police officer, he established and encouraged the intelligence led by the police. From this policy, which aimed to achieve the right to presumption of innocence pursuant to the Constitution, the soloist insisted on the collection of intelligence and investigations before arrest and detention of citizens, especially when petitions are written.
“In addition to his mandate as IGP, Arase continued to exploit his experience as president of the police service commission, guiding further reforms and efforts of modernization. In fact, his name has become synonymous with modern police in Nigeria, reflecting his lasting impact on the profession.”
Ojukwu has noticed that the legacy of Arase extends beyond his official roles. It remains a revered member of the Human Rights family, whose dedication to support the rights and dignity of all Nigerians inspired a generation of human rights and police defenders.
Basic journalists report that the NHRC greets the remarkable contributions of Arase to the police and human rights in Nigeria. His humility, intelligence, concentration and commitment to excellence will miss deeply.
“May his soul rest in peace, and his family can find comfort in the memories of his exceptional life and service”, prayed Ojukwu.
