The National Sports Commission summons NFF to address the key football challenges

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has invited the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to a crucial meeting on Thursday, August 14, to discuss pressing themes that affect Nigerian football, including preparations for the qualifiers of the FIFA World Cup 2026 in September and the World Youth Championship in Chile.

Also on the agenda are the recently completed Nations Women’s Africa Cup (WAFCON) in Morocco and the next WAFU B U-17 championship, which Nigeria will organize next month.

The sources reveal the voltage within the NFF on the meeting, with fears that the qualification of the Nigeria World Cup expect that, in balance, it is more complicated. According to reports, the NFF, often accused of poor competition management and poor financial management, is trying to discredit the NSC through a media campaign, citing alleged shortage of financing.

An important inflammation point is the NSC directive that 30% of the Niger Wafcon Award money will be paid directly to the players and the coaching staff, a policy that the NFF has never implemented. The NSC insists that “it will not return” in the order, citing examples of other nations, such as Ghana, which offers its team an even higher participation.

The NSC argues that such incentives motivate players and inspire other athletes to do their best for the country.

The meeting will also review the Super Eagles World Cup classification campaign, which has been tarnished by questionable training appointments, called late players and unpaid bonds. Nigeria faces four forced games against Rwanda, South Africa, Lesotho and Zimbabwe to keep the qualification hopes alive.

Preparations for the final accumulation of the Flying Eagles for the World Youth Championship in Chile and the host of the Wafu B U-17 championship in Abeokuta will also receive attention.

Many interested parties of football see the intervention of the NSC as vital if the NFF is to save Nigeria’s possibilities in the next important competitions.
