The Nigerian Church rejected the appointment of the Archbishop of Lesbian in Wales, warning the doctrinal decline

The Nigerian Church (Anglican Communion) has issued a strong criticism of the appointment of RT. Pdt. Cherry Vann, an open lesbian scholar, as the new Archbishop of Wales, called him dangerous deviations from Christian doctrine and threats to the global unity of the Anglican Church.

In a statement signed by Primata, the biggest Henry Ndukuba, Nigeria’s Anglican leadership described the development as “serious departure of Bible Teaching” and a sign that interfered with “spiritual decadence” in some parts of global alliance.

“The selection of new vann bishops is a clear revelation that many people who claim to be members of the body of Christ cannot bear a healthy doctrine,” said the Archbishop of Ndukuba, quoting *2 Timothy 4: 3-4.

The Nigerian Church warned that the increase in Bishop Vann hinted “the neglect of faith was directly conveyed to the sacred people,” and took the risk of eroding the credibility of the Church and the evangelical mission, especially in the area where Anglicanism was still based on the values of traditional scriptures.

Drawing Historical Parallel, Archbishop of Ndukuba compared developments with the controversial period of most priests Katherine Jefferts Schori, former Bishop of Episcopal Church Chief in the United States from 2006 to 2015, which was also criticized by conservative Anglican due to progressive positions in church sexality and leadership.

The statement further confirmed that the church in Wales now stood at the intersection, warning that the ratification of sustainable liberal theology could make it “spiritually irrelevant.”

“We believe that our Lord Jesus Christ will build His Churches, and the gates of hell will not win against Him,” Ndukuba stressed. “We must hold them in our prayers with a clear message that hope lies only in true repentance and piety. If not, this church will lose full relevance in the divine scheme for the Wales people, and the leaders in the compromise will not be avoided at the time of judgment.”

The Nigerian Church repeats its harmony with the Global Anglican Future Conference (GAFCON), a global alliance of conservative churches that upholds the traditional interpretation of the Scriptures, especially about the problem of sexuality, marriage, and leadership.

“The Nigerian Church (Anglican Communion) condemned, firmly refused, and would not recognize the election of RT. Cherry Vann as the Archbishop of Wales,” the statement stated.

When tension about doctrine and identity continues to widen in the Anglican alliance, the response of the Nigerian Church underlines the growing cracks between the provinces of conservatives and their more liberal colleagues in the West.
